Melecs: From local Burgenland electronics manufacturer to Europe’s Top 12 in just 15 years

Austria’s biggest independent electronics developer and manufacturer Melecs is celebrating its 15th anniversary. In this time, the company has grown from a local business to a global player with about 1,900 employees worldwide. Turnover increased from EUR 96 to 514 million, with the opening of further sites in Hungary, China, the USA and Mexico creating a global presence.

Melecs came about in 2009 through the spin-off of several units from Siemens AG Österreich and has focused exclusively on the field of electronics since 2014/2015. Electronic components from Melecs can be found in day-to-day life in everything ranging from electronic control units in the cars of international premium manufacturers to household appliances of the European market leader. In addition to the Austrian sites in Vienna, Siegendorf and Lenzing, Melecs has electronics factories in Györ/Hungary, Wuxi/China, Querétaro/Mexico, and a sales and development office in Auburn Hills/USA. A global, digitalised production system with worldwide, standardised manufacturing standards enables the local support and industrialisation of products that international customers are looking for.

Massive growth & investment in R&D

Since 2023, Melecs has ranked in the Top 12 EMS service providers in Europe (market report in4ma). This success was made possible not least due to massive investments in development and innovation: the R&D division has grown from 5 to more than 100 people since the beginning of 2009. The company’s strong growth in recent years and its power of innovation also resulted in various awards, such as overall winner + “Smart Factory” winner of the Austrian production competition FABRIK 2018, or most recently 2nd place in Austria’s Leading Companies Award 2023 in the category of large company in Burgenland.

Equipped for the future

Innovations are an important factor for success at Melecs when it comes to developing the company further. With automotive solutions in the area of Lighting and Interior, All Wheel Drive Applications, Chassis Electronics, Steering Control and Thermal Management, Melecs supports the trend towards e-vehicles and autonomous driving. In the fields of Home Appliance and Industrial, Melecs also contributes to energy efficiency with power, control and operating modules, sensors and display modules.
