In the development process, system integration is the task of shaping various sub-systems, such as hardware, software, mechanics etc. into a complete system. We ensure that in addition to the individual tasks achieving their functionality, the mutual interaction between system components work towards solving the required task. The main requirement is the seamless functioning of physical interfaces as well as software components at all levels.
FINDING THE OPTIMUM
Ideally, system integration goes beyond simply ensuring proper “function”. During development, DfC Design for Cost requirements are a constant challenge. An optimum must be found to decide whether individual functions should be handled through software, hardware or system solutions. Ideally, the cost consideration also considers DfT and DfP optimization.
TESTING CONCEPT AND TEST SYSTEM
As in every other development task, in the concept phase the testing concept for development and the applicable quality assurance system are defined. Usually, a testing system is also developed for production. Again, the right balance must be found between the required testing depth and minimizing testing times in order to keep production costs as low as possible. According to Melecs’ standard processes, the concept, development and testing phases are documented, enabling approval and validation processes.
LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT
One challenge of system integration after the completion of development is the Life Cycle Management. Required software updates or alternative components to be replaced require careful analysis and implementation in order to properly account for backwards compatibility issues.
